Three Tips for Reducing Eyestrain
For many office workers and computer users, eye-strain can be a real issue. Spending hours in front of a computer screen can cause fatigue, eye irritation, and even headaches. Though this can be a major problem, turning off the computer is just not an option for many of us. The good news is there are a few things we can do to reduce the strain on our eyes and help alleviate some of the problems. We’ll take a look at a few of these options coming up next.
Staring at a computer screen all day can make you feel tired and overworked. Finding ways to reduce this feeling can help you get more done and become more productive. Here are three easy ways to reduce eye-strain while working at your computer.
Eliminate Glare – You may not realize it, but light shining or reflecting on your computer screen can cause added eyestrain to your day. Look to see if there are any light sources that reflect off of your screen and adjust to eliminate any glare or reflections. Experiment with adding items such as plants or pictures to help block the light. You may be able to find a glare reduction screen for your monitor as well
Reduce Screen Brightness – By default many computer screens come with the brightness set to the maximum. This makes the screen look bright and vibrant for a sales floor but is not always optimal for a computer user. Most monitors have a menu button that allows you to reduce the brightness. If you have a laptop, the brightness adjustment is usually found in the settings or control panel. Reducing the brightness and help reduce eye strain.
Move Your Screen – An easy adjustment that can significantly reduce eyestrain is to place your screen at the optimal distance from your eyes. This distance is typically around 24” in an office setting. Bring a measuring tape to your office and measure the distance from your face to the screen. Your eyes should be even with the top of the screen, and you should be looking down for optimal viewing.
